Suzy Korn-Keefe

Suzy Korn, owner of Sisters Groomery, has had a lifelong passion for animals. Her journey began at age 16 when she landed her first job at the Cazenovia Animal Hospital in upstate New York. After graduating high school, Suzy pursued a biology major at St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Drawn to the West Coast and the ocean, she made the cross-country move to San Diego.

In California, Suzy worked at the prestigious Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, which led to numerous opportunities. She was hired by Canine Companions for Independence, where she trained as an apprentice service animal trainer at their headquarters in Santa Rosa, CA. Her career then took her to their Oceanside facility, where she continued training service dogs for individuals with disabilities.

Looking to deepen her expertise, Suzy enrolled in an Animal Science program at Mesa College, focusing on veterinary technician training. After passing her state boards, she worked as a registered veterinary technician at the Helen Woodward Equine Center and Rancho Santa Fe Veterinary Hospital for several years.

In addition to her professional career, Suzy has dedicated years to volunteer work. She has groomed shelter pets, rescued animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and frequently donates grooming services to those in need. Suzy also participates in food drives and other charitable events, ensuring that her passion for animals extends to helping communities and pets in difficult situations.

One day, while browsing Craigslist on a sunny beach, Suzy stumbled across an ad for a small pink mobile dog grooming van, sparking her entrepreneurial spirit. She attended the California School of Dog Grooming while working nights at a sushi restaurant in Solana Beach. Upon graduating, she purchased her first grooming van and was fully booked within six months, eventually growing her business into a thriving operation with multiple vans and groomers in North County San Diego.

In 2021, Suzy, her husband Mark, and their three children sold their hobby farm and business to relocate to the quieter town of Sisters, Oregon. Today, you can find Suzy running her grooming salon, while her husband operates his taco truck, Coco Loco Taco Bar. Their kids are enjoying life in their new small town, attending high school, middle school, and elementary school.

Excitingly, Suzy has recently purchased a new grooming van and is set to launch a mobile grooming service in November 2024.
